These two sisters have been taking care of Napa Valley seniors for more than 20 years.
Juana was a teacher and Lupe studied nursing. It was always Lupe’s dream to create a space where she could be caring for people. Their opportunities in Mexico were limited, so Juana and Lupe joined family members in St. Helena who had already immigrated to the U.S.
They bought a house and equipped it to be safe for their new residents. They’ve been welcoming and caring for them at their assisted care home ever since.

SHHC's dedicated team has been providing 24/7 senior care for for more than 20 years. As front-line care providers, we're tuned in to changes in our residents' physical, mental and social functioning and we notify family and doctors of any changes. Our team works together to make residents' stays as peaceful and serene as possible.
Residents receive a full range of support services
From daily living assistance to memory care for those facing dementia. The SHHC team coordinates closely with local nurses, doctors and therapists, ensuring every need is met with professionalism and kindness.
My mother lived at St. Helena Home Care for eight years. The whole staff is caring and kind. They always treat the residents with dignity and respect. I highly recommend them and have referred others to them. It's difficult to find assisted care facilities in Napa Valley that provide this level of care.

Sisters Juana and Lupe and their team at St. Helena Home Care took wonderful care of my mother as they have with so many others in the Valley, allowing them to be here or at home with family and friends. Their care and service are a gift.

My 100% support for Juana Gutierrez and her staff at St. Helena Home Health Care.
My brother has been a resident there for about 18 months and has received the best care. He suffered a debilitating stroke 5 years ago and he now needs the personal support that is only possible in this type of home setting.
They provide for all of his needs throughout the day from laundry to regular bathing to keep him clean, home cooked meals that are nutritious and appetizing, and gentle companionship for his medical needs throughout the day. They are constantly looking for ways to improve the quality of his life, even as his abilities diminish.
He is happy to be here and we are grateful to Juana and her sister Lupe for the consistent care they and the staff provide for him.

I’ve been an RN for 48 years. St. Helena Care Home has consistently provided excellent, compassionate, and the highest quality care to seniors for many, many years. I not only saw many residents in their care home frequently in my profession with home health and hospice, but my own father was so very fortunate enough to be cared for by Juana and her sister Lupe in his final months of life.
A professional in the medical field, I fully trusted them with my father‘s care. They cook their food from scratch, if I was there visiting, they would always offer me something.
They were consistently patient and incredibly kind and loving to all the patients they cared for, and my Dad felt very blessed gratefulto be there. Juana and her sister Lupe truly are angels in human form!! If I had a scale of one to 10 to rate them, my rating would be at the very least 15!

We keep families apprised of any changes in behavior or condition. We're often the ones who accompany patients to doctor visits and we're with them for consultations. We let families know if there are changes to their medications or mobility.
We take residents to their doctor and dental appointments and participate in the doctor-patient consultation to make sure we know if there are any changes in a patient's condition and how those changes will affect their daily lives. We schedule appointments and take residents to their appointments.
Residents have three nutritious meals/day plus snacks. We make every effort to accommodate special diets, especially those prescribed by doctors. When our residents move in we ask about foods they like and try to serve "happy meals".
SHHC provides hygiene items like soap and toilet paper. We do their laundry and make sure they have clean clothes. We change their bed linens every week and provide comfortable beds and bedroom furniture.
As much as possible, we try to keep our residents moving. Short walks around the block or doing the exercises prescribed by their physical therapists helps them remain active.
Many people are surprised that our services extend beyond our facilities. We also travel to patient homes to provide care that can take many forms. It may be a once/week check-in or getting to a doctor appointment. For one patient, we were on call while her husband was on a business trip. We just checked in several times/week and did some grocery shopping for her.
Daily routines are important. We make sure our patients are toileted. bathed and have clean clothes and are up and about. We have created a safe, quiet, harmonious environment. We have a nice back yard, and many of our patients like to sit and read outside. We provide bedside care and tray service for minor templorary illnesses or recovery from surgery.
It's not unusual to have a medical emergency. We all have the EMT number on speed dial and emergency responders arrive within minutes. We immediately alert families and follow the EMT to the hospital.
We manage prescription refills and make sure our residents are taking their medications according to the physician instructions. If there's a problem, we interface with the doctors.
It's not uncommon that a patient may need to visit the hospital or have a procedure. We arrange for transport, notify families and meet with the medical team to understand post-procedure requirements. We also visit patients at the hospital.
For most of our in-house patients, this becomes their final home. When the time comes, we partner with hospice to ensure that our residents are comfortable and are getting emotional support. Care includes constant monitoring, doctor visits, and keeping patients as pain-free as possible. Hospice is available 24/7 via on-call support.
SHHC is fully licensed to provide in-house, long-term care for seniors with memory issues, Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. Our 24/7 team provides grounding routines, sets schedules and provides the familiar environments that help reduce distress for these residents.
Assisted living provides help with daily activities—like bathing, dressing, meals, and medication management—while still promoting independence. Assisted living is more home-like, social, and less clinical than a nursing home, which provides care for those with more complex health needs.
Yes. For our residents, this is their home. We work hard to make our patients feel comfortable and welcome. We've created a serene, homey environment where our patients have their own rooms and privacy. They also interact with other residents in the common areas.
Medication reminders/administration, assistance with bathing, dressing, and grooming. We accommodate special diets and provide healthy, homemade meals and dining support. We make sure our residents have clean rooms and laundry, transportation to medical appointments and memory care for dementia or Alzheimer’s patients.
We want new residents to come and visit our facility. They can talk with our team and see that we've created a warm, inviting home.
St. Helena has a large senior population. Fortunately, we have an excellent response system. In the few times that we've had to send a patient to the hospital, we've called 911, and within minutes, the police, fire department and an ambulance have arrived at our door. We follow up to gain an understanding of patient condition and prognosis and inform families of the status of their loved one.
SHHC is really quite flexible in the way we care for seniors. Most of our residents live here 24/7, but for others, we structure care according to needs. For one couple, we check in on the wife 2-3 times/week while her husband is away on business. We take her grocery shopping, to hair appointments and do a few errands. We often do her laundry and pick up some takeout.
Many of our residents have family living in the Valley, so they come to visit or take their loved ones out for lunch or dinner.
